Superior Surfer in TSJ

A new batch of The Surfers Journal arrived at the Shop yesterday. Flipping through, I was stoked to see a photo spread with illustrations by Bob Tema, long time north shore Lake Superior surfer and graphic artist. I have gotten to know Bob over the years and can say that he is the type of guy that represents lake surfing here so well - surf stoked, friendly, and dedicated. He is also a really good surfer...nice work, Bob.

Spring Ding Fling-A-Ling : May 22

I know...it's a horrible name, but we had to call it something. No worries, though, because the event is going to make up for it. To be held on Saturday, May 22, the Spring Ding is the first of it's kind in Great Lakes surfing...

Ding Repair Demos held by local foam and fiberglass gurus who will help you fix your board, a surf forecasting weather round table discussion and Q&A touching on the problematic issue of finding good waves in the Great Lakes, and a used gear swap meet where you can unload all of your old crap, and pick up some new crap.

Sounds fun, eh? You can find more details by clicking on this sentence.

The Future World Champ May Be From New Buffalo

Okay, maybe not...but this email was so cool. The Bonds family were good customers of ours before they moved to California. I remember Michael skimming in all of our summer comps and romping around in our Kids Beach Camp...now he's taking 2nd place in his first contest in the surfing hot bed of Southern California!

Too rad!

"I don't know if you remember us, but we moved from new buffalo last year to Newport Beach, CA. The Bonds family. We bought Michael his 1st surf board from you in October of 2008. Well it has become his passion! He entered his 1st contest last Saturday and took 2nd! Very excited! He surfs 3/4 days a week before school! Loves it! I hope you enjoy the pic! He is the one on right! Have a great day!

Tom, Julie, Taylor, Megan, Ali and Michael Bonds"

Rasta's Barrel

I've been waiting for some footage from the Noosa Festival to turn up on YouTube, and there are a couple of clips starting to show. The surf pumped the entire time and the photogs were in full attendance.

Here's one of Rasta on an alaia, weaving his way through a first point dredger. This gives you an idea of what the points looked like....nuts.

It was also pretty neat to surf with so many people you see in the films and read about. The list was long!
