One way we have chosen to diversify is by offering kayak and SUP rentals and river tours.
We're stoked about this because we have a lot of folks who come out in the pleasant weather months looking for something fun to do. Many are friends or relatives of surfing customers, and we are happy to make people happy - it's what succesful retail business is about.
So we retrieved our yaks from storage yesterday, gave them a good washing, and set them up in the racks. Kayak and SUP River Tours are now ready to go.

I wish you luck with this expansion. I live a bit north of you, near Pentwater. I am a former American Canoe Association Instructor, Wilderness 1st Responder and trip leader for adjudicated youth. I am currently planning a SUP circumnavigation of North Manitou Island to occur in late June or mid-July, depending on which might promise a couple days of surf. Your trip sounds fun. If you are serious about finding paddling partners you could post on the forum on our website. That is where you're most likely to find able paddlers.
