Well, technically, it is (or was) in Chicago. Yes, there are waves to surf in Chicago (huh?), and it may soon be legal to surf them.
Ironic that a city that is making a bid to host the next summer Olympics currently prevents it's tax paying citizens access to city beaches on "flotation devices". Surfboards, SUPs, boogies, etc, etc...wait, what about kayaks? I am pretty sure I have seen a few of those out there. Can surfboards and SUPs be much worse?
The good news is that the Parks District is ready to turn the corner. Will common sense prevail? In some places, surfers are seen as an asset. In Australia, the presence of surfers and life savers was heavy, and for good reason - surfers are capable of saving people. It happens every year in the Great Lakes. Maybe now that surfing is "legal" in Chicago, it will happen there, too.
